There's the gas supply line, the little wire sticking out of the white plastic tube that ignites it, and the metal-looking thing that is the thermocouple sensor I believe. That's the thing that get corroded. Use some fine grit sandpaper, like 400 grit, and gently and carefully 'clean' the metal-looking thing until it looks like it's all cleaned up and vacuum again. Once that metal deal was cleaned off with the fine grit sandpaper, the pilot light stays lit and, important as well, stays on after the gas burner shuts off. ALL vent free heaters are required to have an ODS pilot light. These pilots monitor the oxygen level in the room and if it detects a low oxygen level, it shuts down the whole heater. This is what I think is really happening.
