If you have a 64 bit system to install, that will be the right pack to put in on top of it and the Pack will include many of the hotfixes and patches which have already come out so you can go straight to it as soon as the system can get online. Check for updates after the restart when you've installed the Pack and check again next Tuesday for the March MSRT. Only two of that bewildering array of downloads are for Windows 7 - the MSDN developers usually get their own download and the Server 2008 versions will not run in your proposed system. The machine in question is a newer Dell and it doesn't like the old version of Windows 7, so it won't connect to the network. Therefore, asking Windows to download directly is not a solution. Instead, I'm downloading the SP on a different computer and copying the files to the new Dell. Whether it is necessary to install SP1 prior to installing Dell Drivers is debatable, but this is what I'm trying to do. The responses to this question may solve a different problem very well, but like the original poster, I would also be interested in how I would know which SP1 is the correct version for my system.
