At long last! (Yes, I know I suck for the delay it’s been a crazy week. Sorry!) Welcome to the exciting (?) conclusion of my Zumba DVD box set review alternately titled: BOX SET REVIEW 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO! Just to review.

Workout (In case you missed them, please refer back to part one of this review for the rest! - ) * Zumba Fitness Flat Abs Workout – 20 minutes I might as well start with the self-explanatory workout, right? This is a quick, 20 minute ab-blasting STANDING ABS workout. That’s right – it’s all ab work done on your feet. Yes, there are cardio elements, but the focus is on keeping your core engaged throughout.

How effective this workout is will completely vary by who’s doing it. Do you find that you’re someone who can really focus in and feel what your body is doing? Great – then you’ll get a lot out of this workout! If not, then this will feel like any other Zumba workout. You’ll sweat, but the ab focus won’t be quite as pronounced. For example, when lifting your leg (bent, 90 degree angle) and crunching to the side toward it, if you’re focusing on the action, then you’ll be powering the leg up with your lower abs as opposed to your quad but if you’re just going through the motions, it’s quad city.

(Incidentally, Quad City is the home of those guys who sang “Whoomp! There it is!”, so there’s always that.

Or something. ANYWAY) Thankfully, Beto and Tania do a great job of constantly reminding you of what you should be feeling where (as in, “you’re working your obliques here”, etc.) therefore, for the less body-aware, this could be yet another opportunity to learn things in the moment. Do I think you'll break a sweat during this segment? Will you sweat more if you’re really paying attention to the ab stuff?

Toates McGoates. This is a GREAT option for those of us doing ab challenges (I’m looking at you, MARY-MACKERS and TONED TUMMIES IN 2010 teammates!) who want to mix it up a bit from our crunches and such. * Zumba Fitness Cardio Party Workout – 50 minutes Counterintuitive, but I think this is the closest to an actual Zumba class of all of the workouts. (Yes, including the “Live” one, which I will get to shortly. Keep your pants on or don’t I don’t care what you do in your homes.

Yeesh!) This workout includes Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Quebradita (which is not my favorite just personal preference – it’s a good workout that makes you jump a lot, but I prefer booty-shaking to hopping around, and I’m sure my neighbors downstairs do, too. But I digress), Calypso, and an “American Mix” that feels like a bizarro line dance. (Again, not my favorite, but I didn’t want to scratch my eyes out or anything.) Anyway, it’s a solid workout without a ton of stopping to explain.

Now, beginners, you may not have liked the sound of that. Well, fear not – you’re taken care of! The Cardio Party gives you the option of utilizing “Rhythm Refreshers” – there are buttons across the bottom of the screen that can be selected with your DVD remote, and if you choose one, you’ll be taken to the “easy beat” explanation and demo of the step.
